Its name arises from the fact that, when in dry powder form, it resembles table sugar.<\/p>\n
The solution is\u00a0alkaline\u00a0and its uses include cleaning paintwork in preparation for\u00a0repainting<\/p>\n

Anyone who\u2019s done the most basic of decoration projects will attest, washing down paintwork and rubbing down is boring and can be hard work. It\u2019s no surprise then that people tend to skimp on it and, in some cases, miss it out completely?<\/p>\n
Regardless of how dull a process it can be, good preparation is essential if you want a decent result that\u2019s going to pass the test of time.<\/p>\n
Rubbing down is something, I think, most people know that is important but washing down existing paintwork first can be equally important \u2013 especially in areas that accumulate a lot of dirt and grease such as bathrooms and kitchens.<\/p>\n
An essential product for washing down, apart from warm water, is sugar soap. And, although it can seem like an unnecessary expense at first, will pay dividends in the long run.<\/p>\n
Wear gloves to protect your skin.<\/p>\n
Add approximately 1 part sugar soap to 10 parts of warm water.<\/p>\n
Apply liberally using a sponge or cloth and wipe\/scrub the surface vigorously.<\/p>\n
Work from the bottom of the surface to the top to avoid run lines.<\/p>\n
Rinse with fresh water and allow to dry completely.<\/p>\n
