Frequently Asked Questions

How long should I leave the paint to dry before waxing or applying Frenchic finishing coat to the Original Artisan Range?

After painting, leave your furniture to dry for at least 30 minutes. In some cases it may take up to 2 hours, depending on the weather/temperature of the room. Only the Original Artisan Range requires sealing – the other Frenchic ranges are all self-sealing.

How long des the wax or finishing coat take to dry?

In most situations, the wax will dry in 30-45 minutes but on some furniture, it may take a couple of days to fully dry. Our Finishing Coat will be touch dry in 15-30 minutes, however, for best results 2-3 coats is needed. It is best to re-wax or add more Finishing Coat every 12 months.

What is the best way to prepare my furniture before painting?

The surface should be clean, dry and grease-free and free of penetrating substances. We advise a scrub with sugar soap, rinse and allow to dry, followed by a light sanding to abrade the surface. Wipe off any dust and you are ready to paint. Please refer to the tin for more instructions.

The paint is quite thick and rich, can I thin it?

We suggest using it ‘as is’, however, it can be thinned using a little tap water but it is best to pour the paint into another container and then add water to not contaminate the entire tin of paint with the water.

How do I apply Frensheen ?

Frensheen is best applied by mixing with Frenchic Finishing Coat or our wax. After applying Frensheen, it is best not to wax or put finishing coat on over it, as it may dull the effect.

What are VOC’s and what makes Frenchic paint different?

VOC’s are volatile organic compounds that are found in many paints. These chemicals evaporate and can easily get into the air at room temperature. They are harmful to both your health and the environment. The health effects of volatile organic compounds can vary greatly according to the compound, which can range from being highly toxic to having no known health effects. The health effects of volatile organic compounds will depend on the nature of the volatile organic compound, the level of exposure, and the length of exposure.

According to the Thirteenth Report on Carcinogens published by the National Toxicology Program, benzene and formaldehyde are human carcinogens; perchloroethylene and styrene are “reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens.” People at the highest risk of long-term exposure to these three volatile organic compounds are industrial workers who have prolonged exposure to the compounds in the workplace; cigarette smokers; and people who have prolonged exposure to emissions from heavy motor vehicle traffic.

Long-term exposure to volatile organic compounds can cause damage to the liver, kidneys, and central nervous system. Short-term exposure to volatile organic compounds can cause eye and respiratory tract irritation, headaches, dizziness, visual disorders, fatigue, loss of coordination, allergic skin reactions, nausea, and memory impairment.
